NBC to air Kerrigan interview during Olympics

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) ? A new documentary on former Olympic figure skating rivals Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding that includes an exclusive interview with Kerrigan will air during NBC's Winter Olympics coverage in February.

Mary Carillo will interview both women on the 20th anniversary of their dramatic showdown at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.

NBC's program will air three months after ESPN's "Tonya and Nancy" documentary, set for Nov. 5. That film includes new interviews with Harding, although ESPN Films said earlier this week it is still trying to persuade Kerrigan to grant an interview.

Both documentaries will recount the Jan. 6, 1994, incident in which Kerrigan was clubbed on the knee after practice for the U.S. championships in a plot masterminded by Harding's ex-husband. At the Olympics, Kerrigan won a silver medal and Harding finished eighth.

In the NBC program, Carillo interviews both Kerrigan and Harding about what they learned and where they are now.

Kerrigan has shunned the spotlight since retiring to focus on raising her three children. Harding is married with a child and has participated in several sports and reality shows.

Mere days ago, Tom Garfinkel stepped down as president and CEO of the Padres and, on Wednesday, the team announced his replacement. Taking over those two high-powered roles will be Mike Dee, who leaves his position as CEO of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

Dee previously worked for the Padres 1995-2002, serving first as director of corporate development and then as senior vice-president of business affairs. After leaving the Padres, he served as executive vice-president of business affairs and then chief operating officer for the Red Sox. Dee has been at the helm of the Dolphins since May 2009.

"I am thrilled to be coming home to San Diego -- an extraordinary community that has always been very special to me,? Dee said in a statement released by the team. ?The Padres organization is where I started my sports career nearly two decades ago, and I am grateful to Ron [Fowler] and Peter [Seidler] for the opportunity to return to my roots."

Jason Patric: 'I want to see my son'

Celebs

Actor Jason Patric says that when his former girlfriend and the mother of his son tries to portray him as a disinterested parent, she's lying.

The actor and his attorney Fred Silberberg sat down with TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Tuesday to share his side of the custody battle story between him and his ex Danielle Schreiber, who conceived their son via sperm donation while the pair were dating. He defended himself against accusations she made on TODAY Monday and in the courts over his alleged Johnny-come-lately attitude toward fatherhood.

"The way the story has played out is because it's a nice soundbite, about 'sperm donor,'" said Patric, who said he was an active father from the start of the baby's life. "I was never a 'sperm donor,'" he added, explaining that while the pair had undergone fertility treatments that involved him donating his sperm, he signed an "intended parent" form with his and Schreibers' names on it.

Schreiber had provided TODAY a letter Patric wrote in which he suggested they keep the baby a secret, but he explained that as well: "I said, 'Let's keep this amongst ourselves,'" he said, and noted that they'd tried for "at least" three years for a successful pregnancy, and she endured a "very bad miscarriage." "After all that process ... it was confusion. But it was more about the idea of I don't know if I could be in what would be considered the 'conventional family.'"

An early court ruling has barred Patric from seeing Gus; he said it's been 21 weeks since he's seen the boy.

Guthrie referred to the discussion she had with Schreiber, who claimed she had never tried to bar Patric from having a relationship with Gus, and Patric took his chance to address her directly through the camera. "Danielle, if you're out there listening right now, wherever you are -- because I don't know where my son is in this world -- call me and wherever you are, I will be there tomorrow. So if you were truthful about that, let me know. Because I want to see my son. That's all I've been trying to do."

Choose Your Path:The Birth of Light:The Corruption of Evil

Whether you choose to be:
A pirate traveling at sea
A king/queen of your very own kingdom
A knight of pure valor
A sorcerer/sorceress conjuring up potions and spells
A celestial being watching over earth
A corrupted creature turned by pure evil...
You are apart of the great war between light and darkness. So choose your path wisely, for the fate of the world may depend on it.

Image

This RP is a twist to the Heaven vs Hell scenario. You will be able to choose the path your character will take and from there you can build up. I wanted this RP to be a free roam world, so you don't have to start in one place if you don't want to and you can meet up with the characters when ever you choose. There will be a main location in the RP for your characters to meet more quickly, but you do not have to start there. I am going to be lenient with the different species that will be allowed, but I want you to stick with the species that I make available. If you have any suggestions or ideas, feel free to run them by me and only then will I make exceptions. This is fantasy based, so there will be powers involved as well as creatures I have came up with (I will put full descriptions). This also means that this RP is open to new players at all times (which means, don't feel that you can't join because we are many posts in.) Also, I would like you all to take your time and have fun with this, live your roles.
WARNING: Mature - There will be moments of romance and detailed description of battles. Join at your own risk.
Don't be affraid to have your characters fall in love or even hate eachother. I want this RP to be dramatic and fun, I want you guys to look forward to posting as soon as possible (Jokingly. Take your time.). No one likes reading long boring paragraphs, so if this RP goes as I hope, this means be creative and colorful with details and ideas, all I'm asking is to enjoy yourself, but make sure that others can enjoy too.

Let me know if this RP is interesting AT ALL, so I can put this bad boy into play.

Crazy is just my stereo type... I'm Insane.

Body of missing Louisiana 6-year-old girl found in trash bin

Gerald Herbert / AP

Lisa North, mother of missing 6-year-old Ahlittia North, cries in the arms of her mother, Rene' Johnson, right, after Jefferson Parish authorities found the body of her daughter in a trash bin in Harvey, La., on July 16.

By Gillian Spear, NBC News

The body of a missing 6-year-old girl, Ahlittia North, was found in a trash bin about 100 feet from her New Orleans home early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Police say they are now in the process of issuing an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Matthew Flugence, the nephew of Ahlittia?s stepfather Albert Hill.

Flugence?s brother, Russell, is being held in jail and has been charged with obstruction of justice in connection to the case, police said

Ahlittia was first reported missing by her mother, Lisa North Hill, and stepfather, on Saturday morning. There were no signs of forced entry to the home, cops said.

?She was a very outgoing child ? very friendly ? one that if someone knocked on the door or rang the doorbell she wanted to be the first to answer,? Sheriff Newell Normand of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff?s Office said in a press conference Tuesday. ?It could have been very likely that she had gone and opened the front door.?

On Saturday, investigators discovered a pool of blood seven doors down from North Hill?s apartment, but it was not until Monday that DNA results confirmed the blood belonged to Ahlittia.

Police officers then canvassed the neighborhood again. At around midnight Monday night, Ahlittia?s body was found in a garbage can, wrapped in her missing blanket.

Sheriff Normand said investigators had searched that same trash can over the weekend and found nothing. Police do not know when the body was disposed of or where it had been held.

?We spent a lot of time with [the parents] trying to make sure we don?t misstep,? Normand told reporters. ?It?s the ultimate nightmare of any parent?s ? to wake up and their child is gone ? having no idea what happened to the child.?

The Coroner for the JPSO cited Ahlittia?s cause of death as two aggressive stab wounds to the neck. She sustained numerous other injuries, including two stab wounds to the abdomen and bruising to the front and back of her head.

According to the family, Matthew Flugence had babysat the 6-year-old in the past. He has also been wanted since late April for the alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old girl, officials said. It was unclear whether the family knew about Flugence?s sexual assault allegations.

At this point it remains unclear if Ahlittia was abused sexually but there are no obvious signs indicating that she was.

Galaxy Note 3 vs. HTC One MAX pre-launch user mindset

When Samsung released the Galaxy Note range back in 2011, they had a new device on their hands that would prove very popular, and as such it was obvious that they would update this with the Note 2 the following year. Well, it?s almost two years and now we?re expecting an announcement for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release in September, but they might have some unexpected competition.

The Taiwanese phone maker has not made any such announcement, but there is a rumor doing the rounds that there could be a HTC One MAX release and if true will target the Galaxy Note 3, just as the HTC One has targeted the Galaxy S4 and the One Mini will take on the S4 Mini.

HTC is not like Apple, they do not bury their head in the sand and forget about what a user wants, and this is a smartphone with different sizes. They already have the middle of the display size covered, and will also fulfill the smaller display segment, so why not the phablet?

If this were to be released, the HTC One MAX would certainly give the Note 3 a run for its money, just as we suspect the Sony Ultra will do as well. Just imagine having an oversized HTC One, it will look a far better device than the Note 3, which we expect will be very similar to the current Note.

For the most part, the pre-launch user mindset for the HTC One MAX is a positive one, but not for all, as you will see in this Google+ discussion page, where some people are worried about having a phone of this size without the ability to change the battery. However, the other issue is that some of you out there fear that HTC is putting too many eggs in one basket, meaning they are trying to do far too much with a single model.

Having said that, you have to admire the HTC approach, as they have simplified their range, unlike Samsung, which as you know is very confusing indeed.

At the end of the day, if HTC were to follow what Samsung has done and will bring yet another new version of a popular device to market, then it will only benefit you and I, as we have a far greater choice.
